I like minimalist design. I like the cleanliness of it and the sophisticated simpleness of it. But I think my favorite part of minimalism is the game it encourages to happen between the viewer and the design. For example, my favorite design out of this group of posters for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the one for The Fellowship of the Ring. When I first saw it, I thought it was the least successful, because at first glance it is the most ambiguous and confusing. But when I thought about it for a second, those figure-esque images in the center represent the characters in the Fellowship, which is the core of that entire entry in the series. And when I realized that the figure on the far right was depicting Gimli, I was sold. It’s so perfect.
