In what has probably been one of the worst kept secrets in modern Disney, the company has just announced during its investor’s call that they will officially be making a sequel to its 1993 classic, Hocus Pocus. The film, tentatively titled Hocus Pocus 2, will release exclusively on Disney+ and will be directed by Adam Shankman, who had previously directed the film adaptation of Hairspray.
While it is unknown if the original cast will officially return for the sequel, based on the discussions and rumblings from this past Halloween, it seems like a safe bet that the Sanderson Sisters will rise again. Now whether or not the sequel can recapture that original magic has yet to be seen, especially how the film is a unique artifact from its time, but at least fans of the film can rest easy knowing that they’ll be returning to Salem, Massachusetts once more. Just prepare yourself for the inevitable disappointment when they can’t replicate the same magic and wonder and don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Hocus Pocus 2 will release on Disney+ sometime in the near future.
