Holmes & Watson lose big at the Razzies

0

Or does that mean they win big?

You know awards season is winding down when it's time for the annual beat up on the popular bad movies awards show, also known as the Razzies. It's not that I'm against the Razzies, since making fun of bad movies is always such a fun experience, but the Razzies never really touch on the real worst movies of the year, just the popular bad ones. Yes, Holmes & Watson is a bad movie, but I'd rather watch that than ever sit through Slender Man or Show Dogs again. Plus it's just a time to hate on the usual suspects, some of which deserve ridicule, others don't. Dinesh D'Souza deserves all of the hate he gets, but John C. Reilly? The guy stars in good movies and 2018 was actually a really good year for the actor, having critically praised roles in The Sisters Brothers, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Stan & Ollie. But no, he was in a bad movie, so all of it was for nothing.

Speaking of, Holmes & Watson raked in a healthy amount of win or losses depending on how you view it. Winning in Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Director, and Worst Remake, Ripoff, or Sequel. Coming in second place was Donald Trump with awards in Worst Actor and Worst On-Screen Pairing for archival footage of him in Death of a Nation and Fahrenheit 11/9, and Melissa McCarthy, winning Worst Actress and netting herself a Razzie Redeemer Award.

So what exactly does that mean? She's the worst actress of 2018, but not really? She's good, except when she isn't? At least the Oscars are cut and dry. There's a Best Actress winner and that's the end of that. No qualifiers or anything. But I've long since given up trying to put any value into the Razzies. If you like them, you like them, and not much can change that opinion. The full list of winners and nominees are as follows:
