How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World revealed in new poster

0

The poster for the highly-anticipated third installment of the How To Train Your Dragon series has just been launched by Universal. Following the details of the movie released in April, we’ve now been given a colorific sneak peek at what’s to come.

Based on the children’s books by Cressida Cowell, the first and second movies followed unsuspecting Viking Hiccup as he honed his skills as a dragon-trainer with his Night Fury Toothless, and learned to fight for the causes that he cares about. Now, with his father Stoick gone, he must learn to be his own person on his new adventures. It’s been 8 years already since the original was released, and we’ve had to wait since 2014 for the next film. But while we won’t see Hiccup and friends until 2019, we can take a look at what’s in store.

While the poster doesn’t give away too much in terms of plot, we can make a few guesses. Toothless looks set to dabble in a romance with a beautiful, angelic Night Fury, and the glowing landscape behind them looks almost like Pandora. Hiccup, sporting robust armor, a fake leg and wielding an Olympic-style torch of destiny, has the giveaway Dreamworks Face, surely en route to perform some daring feats with a perky attitude. There are also a few silhouetted creatures in the background, pointing to a whole new set that we haven’t come across yet. It’s just like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for kids. While we know Hiccup is venturing further than the boundaries of his home island, Berk, it’s hard to decipher where he’s headed next.

The subtitle The Hidden World makes a diversion from the sequel, which didn’t use a subtitle at all, and although it doesn’t follow directly from the books (there are 12 in total), it shows that Dreamworks want to make this a memorable installment.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic trilogy spanning their lives.  In this next chapter, Hiccup and Toothless will finally discover their true destinies: the village chief as ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, and the dragon as leader of his own kind.  As both ascend, the darkest threat they’ve yet faced—as well as the appearance of a female Night Fury—will test the bonds of their relationship like never before.”

Featuring the voice talents of Cate Blanchett, Kit Harington, Gerard Butler, Kristen Wiig, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill and Jay Baruchel, the movie is star-studded. It’s been produced by Brad Lewis (a bigshot with credits such as Ratatouille and ANTZ to his name) and directed by Dean DeBlois (with Lilo and Stitch and, of course, the How To Train Your Dragon franchise behind him).

While we’ve yet to see the trailer, which will be released next week, we are eagerly awaiting this movie. It’s set to hit theaters next Spring, and if it’s anything like the first couple of films, with stunning landscapes, an awesome score, and loveable characters, it’s going to be a hit.
