The Hunger Games only saw a single week at IMAX theaters nationwide, and during that one week, the film made $13.2 million. That’s a lot of money to sponsor your favorite Tributes. Now, IMAX and Lionsgate have announced the film will see an additional one-week run at IMAX theaters from April 27th through May 3rd, likely to help fill the empty space in many IMAX theaters before The Avengers and the other big spectacle action movies roll in to dominate IMAX audiences. They’ve also released a new poster advertising the new IMAX run, which you can see in the gallery.
I have a pretty firm policy on not seeing a movie in IMAX unless it has at least some sequences shot in the IMAX format, like the new Mission: Impossible or the upcoming Dark Knight Rises, so I’ll likely not head out for an encore show of Hunger Games on the super big screen. That said, I did see John Carter in IMAX, but that was mostly for the rad Mondo poster.
