Deadline is reporting that Idina Menzel, acclaimed broadway singer famous for her turn as Elsa in Disney’s Frozen, will be starring as the evil stepmother in Sony’s upcoming musical adaptation of Cinderella. The film is set to be written and directed by Kay Cannon of Pitch Perfect fame and star singer Camila Cabello in the titular role.
Along with those two actresses, Emmy winner Billy Porter is in talks for the role of the fairy godmother. Cinderella is set to begin filming in London next February. The role of the Prince is currently having “chemistry reads” to find an actor. James Corden will be producing the film under his Fulwell 73 company with Leo Pearlman and Jonathan Kadin.
Cinderella is currently set for a February 5, 2021 opening. The film’s title is likely to change before release.
