We all love Idris Elba. We all love Harmony Korine (ha!). We are all “meh” on Jamie Foxx, so the news that Idris Elba is set to replace Mr. Foxx in Korine’s The Trap, is more than welcome.
The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, as they announced that Focus Features is in final talks to prepurchase the U.S. rights for the movie. Focus has not confirmed nor denied this, but according to THR’s sources, the negotiations are at an advanced stage.
Set in the Miami music scene, The Trap, is a revenge story suited for Korine’s trashy auteur signature. Elba will play a gangster rap star who is about to relish in a moment of glory at the Grammy Awards, when his former best friend – played by Benecio Del Toro – is released from prison, keen on revenge. Details are still fussy, and as the movie is in pre-production, pieces are still falling into place. Some of these pieces are James Franco, Al Pacino and Robert Pattinson, who are in talks to join the cast.
