It seems like… just yesterday that we received word of HBO putting its Naomi Watts Game of Thrones prequel–rumored to be called The Long Night–on hold. Suspicions of mine were confirmed hours later when HBO announced House of the Dragon, a series set before the events of Game of Thrones.
Coming to the HBO Max streaming service, the ten-part series will adapt A Song of Ice and Fire scribe George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood, a prequel novel focusing on the iconic Targaryan family; the titular House of the Dragon. Martin and Ryan Condal worked on the adaption, the latter partnering with Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik in showrunning.
So while details remain sparse on the project, fans of the show who haven’t already rabidly consumed everything Ice and Fire can turn to Fire & Blood for hints at what lies ahead. Dragons. There will be dragons. With HBO Max launching next spring, expect to hear more about House of the Dragon very soon.
