Apparently next Independence Day, we’ll be getting a 3D version of the classic Will Smith sci-fi masterpiece/celebration of our nation vehicle Independence Day, something that director Roland Emmerich is not a fan off. Also, the sequels (what!?) will be post-converted into 3D.
Let’s back up for a second. Independence Day is getting not just one but two sequels? I mean, this is the most unnecessary thing since Harold and Kumar got a sequel. These types of movies are perfect on their own and really should be left to age nicely without fear of somebody going in and molesting our memories with sequels where everybody is sixteen freaking years older! At least they’ll have sweet names, like Independence Day II: Judgment Day, right? No? ID Forever Part One and ID Forever Part Two is what were going with? Great.
I mean, at least Emmerich will deliver on the goods, right? Let’s see what he has to say about the sequels.
The thing that really hit me about the movie is how much love there is in it: between the characters; that the filmmakers had making it; that the cast had for each other. As we’re approaching a sequel we’re focusing on that aspect of it. Because I think that was really the key as to why it worked for everyone. It was lovable.
I…wha-…huh? Lovable? Welp, we can only hope that December 21st, 2012 is in fact the end of all civilization so none of us have to watch a Will Smith almost two decades older than he was in Independence Day play patty-cake with some super-kawaii aliens while Jeff Goldblum hacks their systems with his iPhone.
