What an amazing year for director James Wan and his film, Insidious. The film, which premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, had a theatrical release this past April, grossing over $97m on a $1.5m budget, making it the most profitable film of 2011. It was also nominated for a plethora of awards at the 2011 Scream Awards.
The Playlist is reporting that Wan’s already begun casting for his next film, The Conjuring. Reuniting with his Insidious star, Patrick Wilson, Wan has also tapped Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) to star alongside Wilson. The film, based on a true story involving married paranormal investigators from the 70s, is being written by Chad and Carey Hayes (House of Wax).
While my immense distaste/unease towards horror films has kept me from Insidious, I’ve heard nothing but good things from my fellow Flixist editors that have seen it. That hype, paired with the Wilson and Farmiga castings, should help raise The Conjuring‘s stock a bit.
