In 2018 the world ended when Nazis resurfaced to gain control of the earth. Is this biting political commentary or the setup for some science fiction movie? It’s both, actually, but since this is a movie site I’ll stick to the latter.
To be honest, up until this point I’ve only ever seen the words Iron Sky on cover art but never gave the movie more than a passing thought. After viewing this trailer, I now froth with regret. This looks ridiculous and wild and everything I like about the willfully absurd. Maybe the jokes will fall flat in the full movie. Maybe most of the movie is mundane dialogues stretched to their maximum between bits of actual excitement. I’ve been hurt by a promising concept before. For now, though, I’m going to set that aside and ride on the high this trailer gives me. A lone woman facing off against Moon Hitler mounted on the back of a T-Rex is exactly what I need right now.
I have no idea what the plot is supposed to be, and that seems like a good deal of the charm. The center of the earth is hollow, I guess, and a ragtag group of rebels have to get something from there to save humanity (and someone’s mom). That sounds fine, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be more about the journey than the destination with this one.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race will premier January 16th, 2019 in Finland, and its producers have only vague plans for a worldwide release. You can check out more of the release schedule on their website.
