By New Line Cinema’s It has been a massive success. The film soared to both a positive critical and commercial response, and has since become the highest grossing horror movie of all time. It has made $478 million in sales so far, so it should be no surprise that the film will be receiving the Chapter Two promised at the end of the film.
What is a surprise is that it already has a release date: September 6, 2019, just under two years from now. Nice!
Andy Muschietti will return to direct the sequel, which will follow the Losers Club 27 years after the events of the first film, continuing the detail-laden plotline of the Stephen King novel.
Look, I’m freakin stoked for this. It turned out far better than I thought it would be, and it’s unprecedented success with the public has left an imprint on our culture. I won’t be surprised if the sequel smashes the first films records, and becomes a significant cultural event. Hell, maybe even September will be the hot-new-month to premiere horror movies (Disclaimer: that will not happen.)
