J.J. Abram’s Star Trek sequel, set for release in May of next year, will be titled Star Trek Into Darkness according to sources verified by TrekMovie. The name sounds a bit odd to me, not quite making sense since the Into Darkness part isn’t a subtitle. Hopefully it’ll be related to the plot in some way and not just a generic portent of bad things to come.
As usual with Abrams’ productions, details about the plot and characters have been kept under wraps. We know Benedict ‘Sherlock’ Cumberbatch will be playing the villain, probably a character from the original series (which probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone) who may or may not be Khan or Gary Mitchell, and Alice Eve will be adding a third member to the movie’s British contigent alongside the ‘Batch and Simon Pegg’s Scotty. Production wrapped several months ago, so it’s probably not unreasonable to expect a trailer in the near future.
