It looks like James Franco is out to broaden his horizons, because word on the street is that he is going to be playing the villain opposite Jason Statham in an upcoming film titled Homefront. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Sylvester Stallone, the story follows a DEA agent (Statham) as he moves into a new town that happens to be under the thumb of a notorious meth dealer (Franco).
Filming is set to get underway in September with Gary Fleder directing and Stallone producing. My guess is there will probably be lots of shooting and punching and kicking and exploding. Nothing out of the ordinary for a Jason Statham vehicle. What has me interested is seeing how Franco portrays a bad guy. We may have already seen him as a skeezy weed dealer in The Pineapple Express, but he was still a nice guy and a far throw from a meth kingpin. Sprinkle a little nefariousness on top and maybe we’ll get something interesting, if not volatile.
