Based on Joan G. Robinson’s novel of the same name, When Marnie is There is about a lonely little girl who befriends a ghost. I’ve never read the book myself, but if it’s being adapted by Studio Ghibli, I’m sure it’s equal parts depressing, wonderful, and heartwarming
Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arriety), the film doesn’t have a US release date yet (thus the awful quality of this trailer as it released on Japanese TV) but given Ghibli’s track record, I’m sure we’ll get it domestically too. When Marnie Was There releases in Japan later this summer.
