Jason Bourne's world gets a littler bigger with Treadstone, premiering this October

Who Am I?

Modern Hollywood is just great. Instead of letting a series gracefully bow out or letting viewers interpret stories for themselves, we're constantly subjected to reboots/remakes/sequels that will explain every single detail for us. The Bourne series has succumbed to this, what with the needless sequels Bourne Legacy and Jason Bourne, and now the USA Networks event series Treadstone.

Premiering this October, Treadstone will treat us to the origins of operation that ended up recruiting Jason Bourne and turning him into a ruthless assassin. Set sometime before The Bourne Identity, this series will follow a number of different agents as they are "awakened" to perform their tasks as deadly assassins. It's the kind of cliched nonsense that I've come to expect from continuations of beloved franchises.

Even the trailer doesn't look to buck that trend. This is essentially the same thing that every action movie in the wake of The Bourne Identity became, with tons of shaky cam and cryptic nonsense being spouted to confuse the audience. What made the original trilogy work so well wasn't that it barely made sense, but that it had a sense of style, presence, and wit to it. It didn't hurt that the action sequences were also in a class of their own, regardless of whether the second film suffered from extreme shaky-cam syndrome or not.

We'll just have to wait and see if Treadstone can finally do this series justice. I'm not going to hold my breath.
