The Jim Henson Company may be returning to filmmaking after half a decade. They’ve announced that they’ve acquired the rights to adapt Arnold Lobel’s Frog and Toad series of children’s books. The four books were published throughout the 1970s and followed the adventures of a frog and a toad, named Frog and Toad respectively, who were friends and did things.
Frog and Toad has tremendous value with parents who read these charming stories when they were children and are now sharing them with their own kids, says Lisa Henson, CEO of Jim Henson. She’s producing the film, with Adam and Adrianne Lobel, the author’s children, serving as executive producers. Craig Bartlett (Dinosaur Train) is writing the script, while Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked) will direct.
It sounds like the makings of a good children’s film with a bit of nostalgia for adults. Let’s hope it leads to Jim Henson doing more work in the future.
