Marvel’s upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier streaming series may have just gotten a shot of life it needs to be compelling. John Wick writer Derek Kolstad has signed on to assist Malcolm Spellman (Empire) in penning the script for this spin-off duo series that couldn’t have starred two less interesting characters if it tried. With the man behind the Baba Yaga now on board, maybe I’ll actually give a damn about what happens to Bucky and Sam.
The news came from TheWrap and was confirmed by Collider that Kolstad will be involved with each episode of the six-part series. No plot details have been leaked, but this will likely go over Sam’s rise to the Captain America mantle and Bucky’s aid in helping him achieve the greatness that Steve Rogers once had. Sharon Carter and Baron Zemo are also set to return from Captain America: Civil War, played by their actors from the film.
While Disney+ will be launching this fall, Falcon and Winter Soldier is expected to air in August 2020. With these new series having a greater connection to the theatrical MCU films, I do hope the abundance of content doesn’t lead to a decline in quality.
