Love it or hate it, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker just helped its composer John Williams earn yet another Oscar Nomination. This brings his total nominations up to to a whopping 52 over his entire career composing for Star Wars. He has, in fact, earned a nomination for every single film that’s part of the three separate trilogies. Out of those 52 nominations he has earned five Oscars in total, could 2020 bring him his sixth one?
Williams has some tough competition this year, being nominated with Hildur Gudnadottir for Joker, Alexandre Desplat for Little Women, and Randy and Thomas Newman for Marriage Story and 1917. Gudnadottir who we recently reported on just won a Golden Globe for her score in Joker and made history. Could she do it again at the Oscars? Williams is a legend in the world of film composing so if he does win this would be a fitting end to his time with Star Wars. We will just have to wait until the Oscars to find out.
