John Woo’s Hong Kong action work helped to define what all action movies would eventually become. Hard Boiled is, in my opinion, one of the single best action movies of all time. The Killer, a story of a hitman protecting a singer he accidentally blinded during a contract, isn’t a close second, but it’s definitely in the top ten. So it’s no surprise that it’s being remade in English and in 3D.
There’s a silver lining to this cloud, though. John Woo himself will be producing the project, which is set to feature The Good, The Bad, and the Weird’s Jung Woo Sung and directed by up-and-coming Korean filmmaker John H. Lee. While John Woo’s work has taken a distinct nosedive after the gleefully idiotic Mission Impossible: 2, I have to hold out some hope that he can keep a Killer remake on the right track. Because I dare to dream big.
