Joseph Gordon-Levitt leaves Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially departed Quentin Tarantino’s Western, Django Unchained, citing a scheduling conflict believed to be related to his upcoming directorial debut, Don Jon’s Addiction. He was only expected to play a small part in the movie (possibly Roy, one among a three-strong gang of Australian outlaw brothers), so it’s possible Tarantino will write the role out of the script entirely, as he did when Michael Kenneth Williams was unable to sign up.

Fans of the actor will have plenty of opportunities to see him in many of this year’s most anticipated projects, including The Dark Knight Rises and Looper. Tarantino, meanwhile, still has his usual constellation cast ready to shine, with Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Kurt Russell and, of course, Sam Jackson all on board. Everyone’s talking about Dark Knight, Prometheus and Avengers, but Django has a great chance of being a late entry winner in the Best of 2012.
