After the massive success of Chronicle, Josh Trank has the clout to do basically anything he wants, and he’s set his sights on adapting The Red Star, a comic series from Jason Rothenberg. I haven’t read it, but it sounds like a solid comic, centering around an alt-history Soviet Union with magic and fancy past-future technology. It sounds like it could be neat, and there’s definitely the possibility for the complexity that Trank brought to Chronicle.
There’s not been much talk of the original stories Trank mentioned he was interesting in telling after Chronicle. I don’t know if he’s getting “attached” to all these comics properties because he’s just done a great superhero movie or if he’s more interested in getting a paycheck from a big adaptation in order to do those original stories. This certainly sounds more interesting than a Venom movie, that’s for sure.
