With many rumors and news floating around, it’s hard to gauge what’s real and what’s false with these Marvel films. But I’m very inclined to believe the director of one of the films himself. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Joss Whedon said that there will not be a post credits tag after Age of Ultron:
“There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out,” Whedon says. “We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’
Whedon says they tried to come up with something worthy of the end-credits shot but ultimately couldn’t top shawarma. “It didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right,” Whedon says. “The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don’t do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don’t try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it.
To clarify, Kevin Feige says there will be an after credits chaser (which is most likely the popular mid credits tease the films are known for), but there won’t be one after all of the credits roll. Also Whedon helpfully debunked those Captain Marvel rumors stating that there’s going to be a prominent female hero we’ll be surprised by. That’ll be neat. Tease or no, there’s a good chance I’m sticking around afterwards anyway. Just to be on the safe side. But who knows what Marvel is planning to tease from its hefty Phase Three slate.
