Kathryn Bigelow surprised a lot of people when she won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for her 2009 film, The Hurt Locker. The follow-up to the successful film seems to be keeping in theme. Together with The Hurt Locker writing partner, Mark Boal, Bigelow is planning an untitled Osama bin Laden film. Rumored to have been titled Killing Bin Laden, the officially-untitled film has found a release date of October 12, 2012.
While the film was planned prior to the successful mission of Operation Neptune Star, it originally had a third act depicting failure. However, it’s been rewritten to re-enact the reconnaissance. Other than that and the potential lead actor, Joel Edgerton (Kinky Boots), no real details have been unveiled.
What do you think about this film? Is it too soon, or not fast enough? How about the clairvoyant premise predating the eventual killing of bin Laden? Do any of you even really care for another war film?
