Keanu Reeves is set to face himself as The Matrix 4 grabs John Wick: Chapter 4’s release date

In a strange twist of fate, Keanu Reeves will be facing off against himself at the box-office in 2021. According to a new report, The Matrix 4 is set to release on May 21, 2021. As many will notice, that’s the same day that John Wick: Chapter Four will be hitting theaters. Since both films are being distributed by different companies, Reeves is technically battling himself for box-office supremacy.

Along with news of “Keanu Day 2021,” Warner Bros. announced that The Flash will be targeting a July 1, 2022 release. This is probably a little later than everyone expected, but at least the film is still happening. The same cannot be said for the Taika Waititi helmed Akira project, which has now been put on indefinite hold. The Matrix 4 has taken the date Akira would have occupied.

Finally, WB’s upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot has been pushed up pretty dramatically with a six week extension. The movie is now scheduled for a January 15, 2021 release, meaning we won’t have long to wait before we see some on-screen fatalities. It’s been a busy day for big-budget films, but only one thing is clear:

I’d much rather see John Wick than The Matrix.
