Thanks in part to the #Quarantine, I finally finished a funny first draft of “TWILIGHT OF THE MALLRATSâ€! 25 years after the original, Brodie Bruce will be back for an unnecessary sequel set against the Mallpocalypse! It seems this quarantine hasn’t been completely awful. In a new post on Twitter today, director Kevin Smith confirmed that he has finished work on a first draft for a Mallrats sequel. Released in the mid 90s, Mallrats was the second installment in Smith’s “View Askewniverse” and continued the saga of irreverent comedy that would come to define Smith’s brand. It was…okay? I’m not really a fan, but there were some good jokes in there.
Potentially titled Twilight of the Mallrats, the main takeaway is that Smith is at least returning to something that fans want. I’ll give the man props for venturing out on his own path and making films completely unrelated to his stoner comedy roots, but it would be nice to get some more of that raunchy, juvenile humor that put him on the map. Also, who doesn’t want more Jay & Silent Bob in their lives?
It’s still too early to say when this film will actually come to fruition (if at all), but Smith has definitely been productive during self-isolation.
