King of the Hill is seemingly getting a revival soon

King of the Hill

We’re living in the age of the reboot, so it’s really not that shocking to hear that King of the Hill is potentially getting revived. In an AMA with writer Brent Forrester earlier this week, Forrester stated that both Mike Judge (creator of the series) and Greg Daniels (lead writer for the series) are in the middle of “hot negotiations” to bring the series back into the modern era.

As with a lot of other rebooted properties, this second take on King of the Hill would be set 15 years after the series finale with the cast being appropriately aged up. “I am sure Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES,” Forrester said. “They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill. The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again.”

I suppose Forrester is linking the Trump administration to the show since the main character, Hank Hill, was a staunch republican. The series often tackled the changing political and social climate of suburbanite Texas through the lens of a conservative family with old-school values. Episodes would see Hank dig in his heels before eventually learning to be better and set a good example for his son. It’s a very wholesome (and incredibly underrated) show that challenged conservative viewpoints without demeaning them. I’m not sure that explicitly bringing Trump into the mix is a good thing.

Then again, maybe the last year or so is what is fueling the current negotiations. Last year in an interview with Comicbook.com, Daniels told the publication that he and Judge were rejected for a potential reboot. Maybe certain events this past January made Disney see the value in putting King of the Hill back on the air.
