It’s crunch time for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. (Not to be confused with second diabetes time.) With the release date looming, Peter Jackson and his Weta Workshop hordes are hustling to finish the picture. This latest video blog shows some of the goings on in post-production, which includes motion-capture for beards and a glimpse of Sylvester McCoy (the Seventh Doctor himself) as Radagast the Brown.
There’s obviously some stuff about sound design, editing, and color correction, but what’s most surprising is there’s still some pre-visualization going on as the delivery date draws closer. Even seasoned Tolkien artists John Howe and Alan Lee are creating backgrounds for shots this late in the game. Worst case scenario: missing backgrounds will features shots of a scenery-chewing Jeremy Irons from 2000’s Dungeons and Dragons.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes out December 14th.
