Legendary is bought by China’s Wanda for $3.5 billion

It’s a good time to be Legendary Entertainment. The studio is known for its genre films that started out small, but eventually led to things like the Dark Knight trilogy and Godzilla, but thanks to a spate of wise investments in known IPs (eg Warcraft) they’re now one of the more successful studios going. That means money and it also means a major Hollywood shakeup as the studio has been purchased by China-based Dalian Wanda Group Co., Ltd.

What does this mean for you? Probably not much. CEO of Legendary, Thomas Tull, is still in charge and will most likely continue to focus his company on making nerd movies. The only hope it could bring is that Pacific Rim 2 might actually happen. The mech film was a massive hit in China so with a Chinese company funding Legendary films we could see. Guillermo Del Toro is definitely still on board
