The Hunger Games series is an odd duck. It’s incredibly popular while managing to be one of the darker teen stories on the market. At base level it’s a series in which children murder each other for the enjoyment of rich onlookers as they struggle in a class system steeped in both fear and vanity. On the surface, it looks really nice. I suppose it looks nice enough for Lionsgate to consider offers to build a themepark based on the series.
According to The Wrap, Lionsgate has been approached by several folks who want build a park based on Panem, the state where Hunger Games takes place. But I can’t see the appeal. All Hunger Games has going for it is the murder, so without that, are kids going to have fun searching for each in the forest and climbing/sitting for several hours in a tree? Nevertheless, at least The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (releasing November 22nd) looks good.
