After a lot of speculation earlier this year, Lionsgate Films has confirmed that Cate Blanchett has been cast in the role of Lilith for the upcoming Borderlands film. In a statement given by director Eli Roth, the crew said, “I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do.”
Roth went on to compliment her many talents and is certain that her presence will help elevate the film beyond being a weird curio. I can’t say I disagree as Blanchett always brings her A-game. She also bears an uncanny resemblance to the character of Lilith, so it’s almost perfect casting.
I’m not sure why a film based around Gearbox’s hit series took so long to come to fruition, but then a third installment of the game series took a similarly long time to release. Popular with a pretty sizeable audience, it stands to reason that Lionsgate is about to make a killing with Borderlands. Having Blanchett attached certainly has me more interested.
