Louis-Dreyfus, Gandolfini on new Holofcener film

The lead roles in Nicole Holofcener’s next film, still untitled, are in negotiations to be played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini. The director’s last work was 2010’s Please Give; the new project will be distributed by Fox Searchlight. Louis-Dreyfus is currently starring in HBO’s Veep, which has been renewed for a second season, while Gandolfini has finished filming the forthcoming Killing Them Softly, a crime thriller led by Brad Pitt.

The film will apparently tell the story of a masseuse who develops an attraction to a friend’s husband. Like most work from Holofcener, who directed four episodes of Sex in the City, it will likely take place in Manhattan or Los Angeles and feature middle-aged white people in comedic emotional turmoil. Catherine Keener may or may not remain the Depp to her Burton.

As one Deadline comment incredulously puts it: “because hot women like JLD always fall for men who look like James Gandolfino.” Too true, woodyvo. This film is already off to an implausible start.
