It’s the return of the OG. While Disney’s live action adaptations of their previously animated work have gone on to do some great things the film that kicked it all off (we don’t speak of 101 Dalmations), Maleficent, has drifted away into the background. The sequel for the movie got stuck in scheduling hell but shooting finally started and now we are graced with an actual release date, poster, and title.

First things first, the movie is now called Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The poster, which you can check out below, is basically just a reminder of how cool Angelina Jolie looks as the evil queen. Seriously, that first movie was just visually awesome if nothing else and this sequel will probably be as well as it jumps into the story years after the events of the first.
The real big news, though, is that the films release dates has been bumped up by a whole seven months. That’s a massive jump and moves the film from a May 2020 release to October 19, 2019 release. Most movies shuffle around a few weeks when needed but a seventh-month jump, especially one that moves a major film out of the summer months into October, is a bit of a head-scratcher. Either Disney doesn’t have much confidence in this going up against other summer blockbusters or they’re looking to release it this early to be a bit less competitive on the whole.
