I’ve had my reservations about The Mandalorian for nearly as long as it has been a thing, but the latest teaser for the upcoming third season of Star Wars’ first live-action show looks to correct a few of my problems with this “spin-off.” Instead of taking us on a galaxy-spanning adventure to somehow involve the god damned Skywalkers again, The Mandalorian – Season Three looks to be aiming for a more interpersonal narrative.
As can be seen in the teaser released during D23 2022, Mando is no longer considered a Mandalorian by his clan. We learned this during The Book of Boba Fett, but having removed his helmet to protect Grogu, Mando is seemingly exiled and has to form his own clan.
At the same time, season three will be bringing back Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, who appears to have some choice words for Mando after losing the darksaber to him. There’s still the whole plot of Mando potentially regaining his honor, but we could wind up with a conclusion that seems the Mandalorian walk away from his past and forge a new beginning.
It’s too early for a concrete release date, but The Mandalorian – Season Three is scheduled for release in 2023. That seems perfect considering the deluge of other Star Wars projects that will be hitting Disney+ this year.
