Just heard that Margot Robbie’s company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie – now several months into development. We haven’t been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators. pic.twitter.com/7RxbV4qLFt

It looks like cult graphic novel Tank Girl is getting a second shot at a film adaptation. According to original artist Alan Martin, he heard from actress Margot Robbie’s company that the star has optioned the rights to produce a new film based on the IP. Already several months into development, it seems Martin and his team have not been previously contacted for any consultation on the project.
If this pans out, it will likely mean that whatever form this new Tank Girl film takes will be a completely new interpretation instead of something that ties back to the graphic novels. This runs contrary to the 1995 film, which had heavy involvement from Martin to maintain consistency with his series. Whether or not you think that film was good, it certainly had the same flair that Martin embeds his comics with.
