By Imagine how awesome the Transformers trilogy would have been had it starred a legitimate action star. Imagine if someone like Mark Wahlberg (The Departed) working alongside giant robots. The entire arc wouldn’t have been about some whiny high school kid trying way too hard to legitimize himself amongst his larger-than-life friends, but a total badass punching robots in the face while cracking New England-tinged one-liners. It’s like the makings of a bad fanfic, no?
Looks like the internet won this round as Bay has decided to officially cast Wahlberg into the starring role in the upcoming Transformers sequel. The script is being written by Ehren Kruger, the writer for the previous two Transformers films. While some might find this a bit alarming depending on how they felt about those films, it could be a good thing for Kruger to actually be able to write a compelling role for a compelling actor. As long as Wahlberg seriously gets to punch a robot in the face, I’m all for it.
Trans4mers is scheduled to hit theaters June 27th, 2014.
