Ever been so happy you just started to cry? Ever been so happy you just passed out? That’s sort of Martin Freeman’s problem in the first trailer for Ode to Joy.
Affected with cataplexy, a disorder that causes narcoleptic episodes when rushes of strong emotions overtake those with it, Charlie (Freeman) lives as quiet a life as he can sorting books and living with his headphones on. Stay boring, stay awake, in Charlie’s case. The entrance of Francesca (Morena Baccarin) and her feisty personality tug on Charlie’s heartstrings, which in turn tugs on his eyelids. With the help and hindrance of his brother (Jake Lacy), Charlie tries to break out of his shell to find, what else? Love.
A good old-fashioned rom-com never killed anybody, right? And Martin Freeman will open in select theaters and on VOD August 9.
