I adore Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was a astonishing literary achievement, of course, but Hobbit was my entry point into Middle Earth and its warmth always delighted my young self slightly more than Rings‘ vast scale. In an interview with Hero Complex, director Peter Jackson admitted struggling to reconcile the divergent tone of Tolkien’s works, but judging by the relatively bouncy trailer and this recently released image of Martin Freeman’s roughed-up Bilbo wielding his magical sword Sting, it looks as though he has managed to find a balance.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be out on December 14th and you can watch the trailer here. No matter what Alex says, it’s blatantly going to be better than Brave.
