Irish-British filmmaker and playwright Martin McDonagh has set his next feature film, coming three years after 2017’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The Banshees of Inishir will see McDonagh return to film after his 2018 stage production A Very Very Very Dark Matter.
Reuniting In Bruges leads Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, details on Banshees are scarce at the moment. Set on a remote Irish island, the film is described as being about “lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship.” No doubt some degree of chaos will ensue. Banshees is set to film this summer, with support from Film4.
At the 2018 Academy Awards Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won two awards (Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell and Best Actress for Frances McDormand), and was nominated for several others. McDonagh received a nomination for Best Picture, as well as one for his screenplay. He also received a screenplay nomination back for In Bruges, a black comedy/drama that starred Farrell and Gleeson as a pair of hitmen hiding out in Bruges, Belgium.
