Matthew Vaughn is in talks to direct next Superman film

In an exclusive story from HeyUGuys, Matthew Vaughn revealed that he is in talks with DC Comics to direct a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel. A new Superman movie is big news, and in a time where DC is trying to pivot from their dark-and-gritty footing, a director like Vaughn could spell a considerable shake up.

Vaughn was involved with Warner Bros. Entertainment during the development stages of the DCEU. While the company eventually decided to pursue a more gritty approach to their then future universe, à la The Dark Knight, Vaughn maintains that his vision for a new Superman film would have gone in the opposite direction. He believed that Superman was about having fun, rather than delivering a darker narrative that Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy was keen on producing

In an interview HeyUGuys, Vaughn had this to say about the upcoming Superman sequel.

“I am planning another Kingman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.”

Well, if what Vaughn said comes to fruition, we can expect a remarkably different take on Supes. Vaughn is reknown for his stylish and eccentric films like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and the often overlook Stardust. His films are full of vim and vigor, color and sound. They make going to the movies fun again, and if he could make the morose and cold Superman from Man of Steel into a damn fun hero again, you can bet that I’ll be in the theater.
