Metal Gear Solid adaptation to be written by Jay Basu

METAL GEAR!

As Deadline reports that Jay Basu will write the screenplay for Sony Pictures feature film adaptation of the hugely popular Metal Gear Solid video game, it seems the pieces are finally falling into place.

We've heard talks about this movie for almost a decade at this point, all the way back to E3 2006, when the games creator, Hideo Kojima announced it was in the works. Since then, names like Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman has been mentioned to star as Solid Snake, but neither is very likely for different reasons. At one point, Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil movies) expressed his interest to direct the movie, but luckily (for fans of the game and humanity) this won't happen as Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) will sit in the director's chair.

Basu is a relative unknown, but is credited with the screenplay for movies like Fast Girls and Monsters: Dark Continent. It's not an obvious choice, and maybe even somewhat strange, but it's good that things are finally happening behind the scenes. Maybe it's finally happening.
