Bleeding Cool has revealed details about Almanac, the Michael Bay-produced found-footage time travel film. And yes, there’s a sports almanac in it just like Back to the Future Part II. The story involves a high school kid named David (a nerd) trying to woo Jessie (a popular girl) by winning the science fair. The plot synopsis continues:
David’s late father was a scientist and so he looks through his Dad’s stuff for ideas — and he finds two things of note. One gives him the ability to time travel… and the other is a sports almanac. Anybody who has seen Back to the Future 2 can guess where this is headed.
Two more of David’s friends travel back through time with him to abuse the almanac. Timelines get messed with, we learn more about David’s dad’s research, and there’s apparently a couple of pretty big twists… one of which I was able to guess, in fact.
Sounds more than a little derivative, but I guess it’s all in the execution. On a side note, why doesn’t anyone use time travel to go back into the past so they can sell all of their now-worthless 90’s comics during the height of the speculator boom?
Almanac was written by first-time screenwriters Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan, and will be helmed by first-time director Dean Israelite. It’s still being fast-tracked into production and may even be out by winter 2013. The creative team has their work cut out for them.
