Michael Clarke Duncan passed away yesterday morning in Los Angeles from the effects of a heart attack he suffered on July 13th. He was only 54 years old.
Reports suggest that his girlfriend, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth (from The Apprentice), may have saved his life back in July by performing CPR. Duncan was hospitalized and eventually moved out of intensive care in early August to recover. He remained in the hospital until his death.
Before acting full-time, Duncan worked as a bouncer and a celebrity bodyguard. Duncan’s breakthrough role came in 1999’s The Green Mile, garnering him Oscar and Golden Globe nominations and lots of deserved praise. He landed the role in The Green Mile thanks in part to Bruce Willis, who became friends with Duncan while shooting Armageddon.
By all accounts, Duncan was a class act, a true professional, and a kind person. There’s always been something undeniably charismatic about his presence on screen as well as how he seemed off screen. It’s a sad loss, and our condolences go out to Duncan’s family and loved ones.
