Some movies scream for a sequel, while others don’t need another installment. Some movies have way too many sequels, and should have quit while they were ahead. Some movies really, really, REALLY  don’t need sequels. Fortunately, some people have enough money to do whatever they want.
For example, it was announced today that Miramax and The Weinstein Company are activating their Wonder Twin powers to bring us sequels to a bunch of movies, some of which are reasonable and some of which are completely unnecessary, unwanted, and unneeded. - The sequels we already knew about: Scream 4, Spy Kids 4, and apparently Scary Movie 5 (this one’s news to me).
- The sequels we’re definitely getting: Bad Santa (sure, why not?), Rounders (…okay), and, ready for this? Shakespeare in Love. WHAT!?
- Potential sequels/TV projects: Bridget Jones’s Diary (ugh), Copland, From Dusk Till Dawn (really?), Swingers, Clerks (I’m actually okay with this one), Shall We Dance, and The Amityville Horror (this one too).
With a few exceptions, these movies don’t need to be franchises. Some things should be left alone. On the bright side, we have some new Miramax Blu-ray releases with brand new special features to look forward to in the future. There’s always a silver lining. Right?
