Nathan Fillion wants to be in Uncharted, with one catch

Fans of Browncoat Nathan Fillion are annoyingly adamant that he be cast to play Nathan Drake in a big screen adaptation of Sony’s Uncharted videogame series. I can see where they’re coming from: he was great in Firefly! But at this point, the mere mention of the project causes fans to circle-jerk the actor and spew hatred towards David O. Russell’s weird proposal that isn’t happening anyway, perhaps because it had nothing to do with developer Naughty Dog’s videogame.

But it’s okay! Neil Burger is the director now, working on a script that stays closer to the source material. Nathan Fillion is aware of this, and still interested in playing the part of Nathan Drake! But there’s one condition: he doesn’t want fans harassing Burger to cast him. It makes sense, because if a director has his own ideas and everyone else is pressuring him to do something else, it can really put him off the idea.

Fillion suggests that maybe if fans were to Inception the idea (it’s a verb now) into the director — letting Burger come to that conclusion himself — that would be okay. This is a bad idea, Fillion! Knowing how vocal his fans are, they would probably figure out how to do it! Nevermind the fact that as much as I like Fillion, he’s getting a little old for the role. Just let Burger do his own thing with the project! Here are Fillion’s full thoughts on the matter:

I am certainly still interested in playing Nathan Drake. I think every actor I know wants their action-adventure hero, their Indiana Jones. That would be a good one for me, I think. What I don’t want is people pressuring that poor man and souring him on the actual idea. If we could somehow just… do you remember the movie Inception? I think that’s what we need to do. We need to let him land on the idea on his own.
