The lack of an Indiana Jones film in our lives may soon be rectified. In an interview with Collider about his new Starz series Hightown, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that everything is in motion for him to produce a TV series based on the National Treasure films. Stated to premiere on Disney+, it won’t see the return of star Nicolas Cage or anyone from the originals: this will be an entirely original joint.
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen,” Bruckheimer revealed. “Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active…The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast.” He then stated that supposed the film iteration would retain the same cast, likely meaning National Treasure 3 is finally coming together.
Collider wasn’t able to get a comment from Disney, but Bruckheimer told the publication that work was completed on a pilot and general outline for future episodes. With Indiana Jones 5 locked in development hell, it only makes sense to go forward with this production. People clearly like the movies, even if I fail to see what is so charming about them.
