Netflix is going all-in on The Witcher. After the immense success of the first season of its show (which may or may not be inflating its viewership numbers), Netflix is looking to create an animated film based on the series. Titled The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, the project is coming from showrunners Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Beau DeMayo. Korean animation studio Studio Mir (of Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender fame) will be handling production.
With those names behind it, there’s a very real chance this will slot in to whatever you’d consider a timeline for Netflix’s series. We’ll likely see Henry Cavill reprise his role as Geralt and may even get to explore some background on how the character became the Witcher we know and love. It could also serve as a way to tide fans over from season two’s 2021 release.
Netflix didn’t talk a release date for the project or even how far along development is. This could be in the pre-pre-production phase and simply an idea for all we know. Even if it is, fans of The Witcher are going to get plenty more of it in the future.
