Just in time for the misery that is the holidays, Netflix has announced it will not be moving forward with more episodes of its Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival series. In a weird twist of fate, this news comes just before Thanksgiving, which has become something of a MST3K happy day. Fans will know that the original 1988 series premiered on Thanksgiving and its syndication rerun marathons were often held around the holiday.
There doesn’t seem to be much reason for the crenelation, though. Netflix hasn’t even offered a statement, though current host Jonah Ray offered some words on Twitter to soothe the pain. “So, Netflix decided to not do another season of MST3K. We are off to Get Down in Lilyhammer while the OA helps us take it One Day At A Time. We will be in group therapy with Tuca & Bertie, Jessica Jones, & Lady Dynamite.”
Whatever happens in the future, at least we were able to see MST3K come to life a second time. It’s rare for a show this oft-kilter to even air, let alone get a revival.
