In a surprisingly pro-consumer move, the streaming mega-corporation Netflix will be offering a number of its original films and shows for free to users around the globe. In the newly launched “Watch Free” section, titles such as Bird Box, The Two Popes, Boss Baby: Back in Business, and a select few episodes of Stranger Things can be viewed without creating an account or subscribing to the service.
While there are only 10 titles available, the website mentions that Netflix will be changing the selection at regular periods. This move was likely done in response to services like Hulu, HBO Max, and Peacock, which offer a free tier for viewers to partake in a cutdown selection of programming. Netflix isn’t running ads on its titles, so that’s a bonus.
For one reason or another, these films and shows can only be viewed from a computer browser. You won’t be able to boot up the mobile application or even access the content from a Smart TV. The browser on your phone also won’t work, though there are ways to get around listing your device as mobile.
