Netflix halts production on The Witcher – Season Two for two weeks

Netflix has announced that it will be halting production on The Witcher – Season Two for two weeks amid the coronavirus pandemic. In a statement given to Deadline, a source close to the production team said, “We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time…this will allow everyone the time to make informed decisions about how to move forward.”

The US is currently suffering heavily from the spread of this virus, but productions outside of the US haven’t fallen under as harsh of restrictions. With The Witcher primarily filming in the UK, production could technically continue normally. Still, it is far better to be safe than sorry, so one can’t blame the decision made here.

The Witcher’s small delay also follows with Netflix’s decision to suspend all productions in the US and Canada last week. As Deadline reports, Netflix is encouraging other independently-produced projects in the UK to shut down for two weeks as well. During this closure, all cast and crew for The Witcher will be paid.
